hello,
I have just purchased a 'U2IrDA Mini' USB-Infrared Adapter in order to be able to connect my Sony Ericsson Cell phone to my computer and transfer files. As i purchased the dongle from a private buyer it did not come with any drivers, however i went to the manufacturer of the chip (STIR4200) inside the dongle - Sigmatel Electronics, www.sigmatel.com and downloaded the lastest driver, Version 1.32.

I then proceeded as per the instructions on the website, i unzipped the files and ran the setup program which installed files into the C:Windows directory. When this setup program had finished it instructed me to then insert the dongle into the USB port and the operating system should finish the installation.

I then inserted the dongle and windows recognised a 'USB Serial Controller' and asked me to either search for drivers automatically or specify a location. I have tried both ways because apparently windows is supposed to have a version of the driver but this did not work.

I then tried to specify a location of the driver from the files that i downloaded from the sigmatel website but it could not find any information about the drive. I have tried other older versions of the driver but it will not recognise the drivers and it just sits in the device manager with a yellow question mark because it has no drivers installed for it.

Can anyone please help me with this problem? I have been searching for some suitable drivers but have been unable to find any and i have had no reply from sigmatel either. I am also running Windows XP Professional with SP2 if that helps at all. Any help is much appreciated, Cheers Benny

I think you got the wrong driver maybe.... but what is the name of the hardware... post it here and i will try to find the driver for it....

hello,
The name of the dongle is a Coolgear 'U2IrDA mini' - 4Mbps FIR USB IrDA.
Any help or supplied drivers are much appreciated, Cheers Benny

I searched in driverguide.com, but nothing is there....

I looked at www.sigmatel.com and found the same driver as you found.. but I read this msg, that you might consider when you install

"*This is an unsigned driver and Windows may generate a warning message. If this happens, please click on “Continue Anyway” to continue installing the driver."

hello dody,
yes i realise it is an unsigned driver and i have always pressed 'continue anyway' when installing and it still will not recognise the drivers as anything to do with the the device - USB Serial Controller. Any more help or suggestions are much appreciated, I really want to rectify this problem and resent a message to the manufacturer with still no reply, Cheers Benny

oki.. I connect my nokia to the pc, but I need "Nokia PC Suite" to make it working, it can't be working without the suite... so do you have one for yours? otherwise I think you must have it....

hello,
yes, my phone is a Sony Ericsson, and i do have the software installed on my computer. However until i find some proper drivers that work with this device and make it finalise the install the sony ericsson software will not recognise any type of connection. I have to get the device working in windows before i think about utilising any type of phone software. Thanks again for another thing to try, hopefully i will get this problem fixed soon, Cheers Benny

try to remove the hardware, uninstall the driver and install it again!
supercow55
i have also tried that, but that also will not make any difference, Cheers Benny
Dody
what a nice hardware lol... try to contact them and explain your problem.. it could be that the problem is from the driver it self not from your pc or your installtion!
supercow55
yeah i'm wishing i hadn't bought this particular piece of hardware. I have tried contacting through e-mail both sigmatel (the company who manufactures the chip inside) and Coolgear (company that manufactures outside end product) but so far no response. Hopefully they will get back to me soon, Thanks for all your help, Cheers Benny

hello,
The problem has been solved, the USB IrDA dongle has finally installed. I was recommended to try the drivers from http://ds2.my-mam.com/MA620/Driver/MA620driver.zip and they worked. So much for help from the manufacturer, they never even returned any of my e-mails. But im just glad its all working now and would like to thanks everyone who offered their help and suggestions. Cheers Benny
