The internal beta/div site has been updated, nearly 6 months after 6.1, we should be seeing 6.2. The site also shows some design changes, again.
I wonder what new features it will bring :-*

This week is going to be a busy week in MSN Messenger Land, we bring to you the announcement of MSN Messenger 6.2! Only minutes ago Microsoft has changed its internal site to a new layout, after looking around we found out that the layout change is related to the release of MSN Messenger 6.2 ! And best of all we can tell you the exact date of arrival, Thursday, April 08, 2004.

What’s new ? So far we only found a completely updated site, with lots of information, the new version number and the release date, but we will provide more information before you can say IamAMSNMessengerAddict!

Updates:

The new site holds a list of Authorized Users of .NET Messenger Service. The programs in this list are allowed to use the MSN protocol. For now the only allowed client are: MSN Messenger for Windows or Mac , Windows Messenger , MSN TV service , Microsoft TV set-top box , MSN Mobile , Windows Mobile-based devices, including Pocket PC and Smartphone , Windows CE .NET-based devices, including Windows CE .NET 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 , MSN Messenger Connect for Enterprises ( IMlogic , Vayusphere , Akonix ). Programs not listed (like trillian and bots) are considered illegal.

MSN Messenger 6.2 will be available for windows XP, 2000, ME and 98.

The new site will become orange!

Because the site is not intended for public snooping, here are some screenshots of the new site: Welcome screen | Download options | Games list | Feature list | Authorized Users of .NET Messenger Service

[Also reported by: RJT]

I dont know why he says the authorized users list is new, seeing as it was new in October! (MSNP7 death). http://messenger.msn...Authorized.aspx

Most people should know the internal site url, if not, select the following text ;P

I take it the download for messenger on the site hasn't been changed to 6.2 yet?

I take it that the right "New MSN" on the top right hand side of the page refers to 6.2?

Reason why I havent posted the site URL is that it prevents all those kiddies to run over to the site (aka annoying MS). And hadnt seen that list before :) but its allready posted now :)

We allready know that they are working on a better log and animated emoticons. But since this aint official, and not yet finished I wont post it (yet).

Well do keep in mind MSN is a company, not a program. starting to annoy me how often people call MSN Messenger just MSN, you dont call Windows "Microsoft" do you? :P

With the new messenger you can have MSN Messenger contacts who are not in a group. Before, all of your MSN Messenger contacts had to be in a group. Now, contacts who are not associated with a group will appear at the top of your MSN Messenger contacts list. This was accidentally activated a few times earlier, and it was considered a server glitch that moment.

Isn't that already implemented? Atleast, it works for me with 6.1.0207 and it worked just now too. So it couldn't be a server glitch all the time. :)

Why would they have a public site if it wasnt intended for " all those kiddies " to see it.. with sites like mess.be blasting those URLs all last summer / fall.. there is no reason for them to hide it now..
Good find.

Also, the internal site used to actually hold the betas and, to keep it a secret was a very smart move but, around the time the betas for messenger 6.0 started leaking the internal site was found and posted on mess.be(Good work guys seriously). Its not their fault!!! But, unfortunatly too many people know of mess.be and, due to the immence traffic on the internal site and the now public secret the betas were taken down from the internal site.

Not posting the internal site helps us gain Micro$oft's trust (and then strike again ;) :dodgy: just kidding) but the trust will be not be gained if we keep letting it out. There may even be another internal site in which we dont know about. In essence this could be a decoy aka a public internal beta site.

 MS wanted us to know that they existed. ;) If it was some secret site that they only wanted their testers to see it, then they would have used some site where users were required to login. ;)

I do believe MS was quoted as saying that they were really happy with how quickly the betas for 6 had spread around the net. It is after all the best way of testing it. Does anyone else notice how there aren't any serious problems with the MSN betas? I doubt its because that they're such brillant programmers, but more as its intended as a final release.

So I'd quite stressing over not letting the secret out... :)

remember the msn 6 beta? it got removed a few weeks after the leak and the link got replaced by a lan address (like \\JEFF\SHARED\msn6beta.msi)... + maybe their LAN is so big they need an easy address to see the web site ;) instead of typing \\BILL\C\My Documents\Web sites\messenger.msn.com\preview\beta\ ... they just preferred messenger.msn-int.com ?
