Sorry to disagree, but I strongly dislike that code, there are MUCH better ways ;)

I have never seen a well coded example of how to write a MSN Messenger client in .NET

theres an illusion which lots of people cant get past in programming, the illusion is that there is good source code floating round on the net.. this is completely untrue, good source is extremely hard to find

it may look nice cus its a class file and its written in C#, but the way certain parts of it work -- ie -- transaction system, are simply not professional

You know watt. You are right, there are better ways to loge in on the MSN NS! My client uses one. But that is not the purpose of that article. Watt is done here, is show a way it can be done. If you want code that is ready, tings then use the official MSN program.
By the way it won’t get you connected longer then a few seconds anyhow. Because the challenge.
I hang around on forums like this for years. And one thing is always the same. The ones with most critics are mostly the ones that helping the least. The guy that wrote the article, took the effort to show the light!

It is a start, for those who never wrote software like this. Lots of things can be better that is true, remember the server you get connect to for example. It is a good thing to study the code, compare it with the information here.

http://www.hypotheti...earch/msnp9.php

And then improve it. That way you learn much more then hear to critics with no solutions!

Ye, I disliked that code too, but doesn't mean I didn't use it for reference. I have to admit, my code is A LOT cleaner and faster, even though I probably could make it quicker by not checking return values. Anyway, it's thanks to that code that I even tried to emulate the MSN Protocol and the reason I was able to do it so fast (just learning C#). ;)

That code is two years old as well and there's several modifications to the protocol now compared to then.

Then maybe you should take a look at my code. ;)

There are some things I would still like to fix up, but what I have right now (like I said) is better than that code. For example, the use of an infinite while loop to connect is terrible, among other things.. anyway.
